Melissa Jurcan, CSEP, specializes in sales and marketing in the sports, events, hospitality, tourism and non-profit sectors. She has created sales and marketing campaigns and developed event strategies and programming for various companies in her over 20 years in the industry, including: Microsoft, Seattle’s Chinatown-International District, Seafair, the University of Phoenix Stadium & Qwest Field & Event Center, Global Spectrum, Tacoma Rainiers, Village Theatre, and several Seattle-area restaurant/event venues, amongst others.

Some of her career highlights include developing the event sales departments and directing the branding and marketing efforts of two premier NFL/multi-purpose venues: University of Phoenix Stadium (home of the AZ Cardinals) and Century Link Field & Event Center (home of the Seattle Seahawks), and working major events such as Super Bowl 2006 and 2008, the 2001 MLB All Star Game, Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and BCS National Championship Game, international soccer, major concerts and more.

Currently, she oversees the marketing and experience department at Compass Group at Microsoft. This includes development and production of branding, promotions and events in the areas of dining, culinary, cafes, The Commons (townsquare) and Eventions (catering and events) at the Redmond-based HQ.

For the past 15 years, Melissa has been a member of the International Live Events Association (ILEA) and served in several leadership capacities, including: International Board of Governors, AZ chapter founder & president, western regional vice president, and president of the Seattle chapter. Currently, she serves as the Committee Chair of the International Education Council. In 2008 she earned the Certified Special Event Professional (CSEP) designation, the hallmark of professional achievement in the special events industry. In March 2019 she was inducted into the ILEA Seattle Hall of Fame. She is also a proud member of the Washington Festival & Events Association (WFEA), Northwest Meetings + Events Magazine Editorial Board and Northwest Event Show Advisory Board.

Melissa believes that “life should not only be lived, it should be celebrated”, and thus a career in the event industry was inevitable. When she is not planning events for companies she is involved with, she can be found roping her friends and family into celebrating any holiday she can think of (or make up). She is also an avid travel and adventure seeker, and a voracious scrabble player.
