FLOAT has had some exciting moments over the years, but nothing quite stands out like our very first convention in 2008. And while there were so many things about that first FLOAT that really stood out, no one can argue that 2008 was the year of Melissa Vinson.

Then Melissa Gjergji, this talented artist decided to try her hand at all three of FLOAT's designer competitions: Large Sculpture, Entrance Decor and Table Centerpiece. What would happen next would become the stuff of legend in the annals of FLOAT history.

Melissa didn't just do well in the competitions; she took top honors in all three of them. This is a feat in itself that no one has repeated at FLOAT since the beginning, but it didn't stop there. Melissa also took the Delegates' Choice Award in all three competitions, proving to be the favorite amongst the attendees as well as the judges. So it came to no one's surprise when she was awarded the Designer of the Year honors later that night.

In fact, to this day no one has come close to achieving this level of success at FLOAT with a complete sweep of all the awards. And even if they do, they'll never be able to say they were the first...
